Founding era and idea of America

The supreme court, or also known as SCOTUS, is the highest court in the federal judiciary of the United states. The Supreme Court has all and ultimate jurisdiction over U.S federal court cases and state cases that involve anything to do with the U.S Constitution or federal law. After reading this very informative article about the supreme court system, I can confidently say that I have learned many new things, and have a better grasp of what the Supreme Court actually is, and what they stand for. Something new that I learned from this article was that the number of Justices on the Supreme Court had previously been higher and lower than 9 members. This was interesting to me because growing up in school, we were always taught that there were only and always nine members. The most surprising thing I learned from this article was how for over 100 years, justices were required to get together and hold a circuit court twice a year in each judicial circuit. Traveling during these times was very dangerous, and difficult to get all of these people together in the same place at the same time without difficulties. This went on for a very long time, but was finally abolished in 1891. The most important takeaway from this article is what the true duty of the Supreme Court really is. Their duty is to uphold the constitution, and preside over cases to determine the constitutionality of laws created in congress. They check the constitutionality of the executive and legislative branches as well as having the final authority to determine constitutionality of all other branches as well. I really feel that this article changed the way I view the Supreme Court through how it made a clear point on how they are totally and completely unbiased. Their true primary role is to uphold the rules of the constitution as their singular and very important job. I had previously thought that they might have had slight biases towards certain things, but their only and true intention is to follow the rules and laws of their previous founding fathers.

Online privacy and digital footprint

We all know social media to be a fun and carefree place to express ourselves and connect with others. But have you ever taken the time to really stop and think that what you are posting could be incredibly harmful to you later? Mindlessly accepting terms and conditions, digital footprint, and having non private accounts are all things that could be much more harmful to us than we realize. Darieth Chisolm is an Emmy- winning television personality, entrepreneur and international speaker. She made a remarkable speech on Ted talk about how what we think is private and intimate between the people we love on social media is not as private as you think. Darieth had just gotten off work when she got the text that very intimate and explicit photos of her had been leaked by an ex partner onto a website for everyone to see. She was humiliated, sad, and terrified for what this could lead her to. Though her ex husband shared these explicit photos, the bigger issue was not being able to get them removed. Darieth went through months and months of humiliation before these photos were finally taken down and her ex husband was brought to justice. Anything and everything we post online is permanent, whether we think it is or not. Having privacy in this day and age is becoming more and more rare due to the accessibility of information of people through social media. In my own life, privacy is very important to me. I am always very mindful of the things I say, post, and send on social media. This leads to the question of what can we do? We must take advantage of saying no more often. Don’t ever put private information online, even when you feel that it is a safe and trusted source. Read through terms and conditions. Social media companies purposefully make these long and small to read with the intent of people quickly skipping through this stage. Stop and read, it could save your future.

My top five sources of news and information

My Dad

Over the years I have learned that a very truthful and unbiased source of news would be my dad. He always informs me about recent news and important things I need to know. My dad is a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch who loves music, outdoors, playing tennis, and keeping up with the news. My dad gets his news from many various sources including Bloomberg, Reuters, Ap news, Kcci 8, and cnn. When he tells me about the latest news I always know that he has also heard many different viewpoints before passing the information along to me which helps me know that he is a very reliable source!

TikTok

When it comes to breaking news and getting many different viewpoints on a subject, TikTok is definitely my go to. TikTok is used by millions of users every day with new content being posted almost every second. Though Tiktok is mostly known as a social media/ fun content app, it also can be used as a news source. When the Idaho murders occurred a few months ago, TikTok was the first place I heard about it. when breaking news happens, I already know that TikTok will have all of the details right away.

Instagram

Instagram is another one of my go to news sources. Instagram is a creative social media outlet where you can express yourself and really show people what you want to be known about yourself. People do this by posting photos, videos, and stories! With daily posts and even a fact checker that shows you if information is true or not, this app always has some of the latest stories I need to hear. I also love instagram because it somewhat gives you a look into a celebrity or influencers personal life. Though many things are skewed to get the perfect picture, It is a fun place to express yourself in photos and keep up with others.

Twitter

Twitter is a social media app made for posting quotes, thoughts, and other things. Though you can also show videos and photos, it's mostly known as liking someones written thought as a post. I don't tend to use twitter as much as I use other social media apps that I own, but twitter is a great place to keep up with current news and even watch things happen first hand before tweets are posted into a news article. Twitter is used by millions of users every day and also receives many different viewpoints to a story.

TMZ news

If you are looking for the latest drama on celebrities or influencers, TMZ news is the place to look. TMZ is often known for being the first news source to update the public about celebrity deaths, scandals, and so much more. If I'm looking for a drama article to read, this is definitely the place to go.
